Quantitative Survey in Village Panchayats of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh

A large-scale household survey examining rural livelihoods, governance, and community participation in village panchayats.

Project Introduction

This study involves a large-scale quantitative survey of 10,800 households carried out across Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat between July 2023 and February 2024. The research covers a diverse set of themes relating to rural livelihoods, local governance, and community participation in village panchayats, aiming to build a substantive evidence base on how these local institutions function in the day-to-day lives of rural communities.

Project Methodology

Fieldwork for the survey was carried out across village panchayats in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, reaching 10,800 households between July 2023 and February 2024. As this project is currently underway, further methodological documentation will be published as the study progresses toward analysis.

Impact

The dataset generated through this effort is expected to serve as a substantive evidence base for understanding village-level governance processes, socio-economic conditions in rural communities, and the everyday experiences of individuals participating in local institutions. By documenting both the challenges and opportunities in panchayat contexts, the study adds to the knowledge needed for policy design and programmatic action aimed at strengthening local governance, enriching ongoing conversations about rural development, democratic participation, and service delivery in India.
