Project Methodology
Surveys collected detailed information on student attitudes, aspirations, emotional well-being, peer relationships, and critical thinking. The endline phase, completed in early 2025, added a behavioural game to measure cooperation, capturing decision-making and peer interaction beyond self-reported outcomes, alongside audio-based assessments evaluating communication and speaking confidence. Despite the region’s difficult terrain, survey coverage remained above 95% consistently across all sampled locations, a result of strong local partnerships, thorough field staff training, and close coordination with schools and district authorities to align fieldwork with the academic calendar.
Impact
The project received Stage 1 acceptance at the Journal of Development Economics through its pre-results review track, reflecting the rigour and relevance of the study design and analysis plan. Results are currently being analysed and are expected to inform discussions on adolescent education and socio-emotional curriculum design in India, contributing evidence on how theatre-based approaches can support student development and well-being in under-resourced, rural school settings such as Champawat.
