Project Methodology
Conducted in Telangana, the study surveyed thousands of households in 2023 to gauge the impact of redistributive policies — government efforts to reduce caste-based economic disparities through targeted support, subsidies, or transfers such as direct cash transfers, asset provisions, subsidized credit, or training programmes — on caste dynamics. Fieldwork was carried out by a dedicated team of over 40 members, including surveyors, supervisors, a field manager, project associate, and audio auditors, who addressed real-time field challenges while maintaining consistency and rigour in data collection.
Impact
By capturing detailed data on household-level resources, perceptions, and experiences, the project contributes to discussions on the role of government redistribution in addressing group-based disparities. The evidence generated is relevant for policymakers, researchers, and practitioners interested in designing interventions that promote social equity and more inclusive economic development in contexts where caste-based inequality has deep historical roots.
